Pontianak
Pontianak
After leaving Kuala Lumpur, my next destination is Indonesia. I plan to stay in Indonesia for 10 days and visit several cities. My first destination in Indonesia is Pontianak, which is located on Kalimantan Island. Pontianak is not a big city, but I came here 7 years ago for the first time.
7 years ago, I came to this place to join a volunteer activity through AIESEC, the biggest youth organization in the world, and stayed in a homestay for 6 weeks. All the people I met in this city were very kind, even though we have different cultures and religions.

So the purpose of this stay was not to visit landmarks but to reunite with them, and the host family welcomed me again — I really appreciate them. Islam is the most major religion in Indonesia and many of my friends there are Muslim. They have a fasting culture from February to March called "Ramadan". They fast — no drinking or eating while the sun is up — but they eat and drink together after sunset. They sometimes go to a mosque to eat together after praying, so I joined the dinner with them and saw the inside of a mosque — it was majestic.

Also, I had a chance to meet old friends there — everyone was doing well and I got positive energy from them.

I only stayed 2 nights this time and I'm not sure when I can come back, but I really had great moments there and appreciate our bond and their warm hospitality. See you again!
